Our animal artwork

We have had some animals on display in our classroom from the Brisbane Museum.  There was a Saltwater Crocodile, Bush Tail possum and a platypus.  We had these animals in our classroom because we are learning about the classification of animals as part of our Science work this term. The animals looked very real and some people felt like they were watching them while they did their work.  The eyes of the animals were replaced with button like objects.

Last Friday we sketched the animals.  We could sketch any of the animals that we wanted to and some people did a sketch of all three animals.  We used our lead pencils and our scrap book to do our sketches.  Some children found they had a lot of ideas when they did their sketches while others found it hard at first, but it got easier as they started to relax and enjoy the activity.  When we did our sketches we had to go really light with the pencil first so it was easier to change any parts we wanted to change.

We had a choice of whether we wanted our work to go on display. You can see the sketches that are on display in our room in the pictures below.   We had fun doing the sketches and looking at the animals.

What is your favourite animal?

What kind of things do you like to sketch?
