Math's Investigation

For the last few weeks we have been doing some running, jumping and rolling of balls.  We've been doing these things because we have been doing some Math's investigations.   The Math's investigations were "Who could jump the longest distance in year 3?", "Who could run the fastest in year 3?" and "Who  could roll a ball the longest distance in year 3?"

To be able to find out the answers to these questions, we had to learn how to measure with a tape measure and how to time things using the stopwatch on the i-pods.  We also had to learn how to make a data table and a graph. We needed a graph to show our results.

The investigations were really fun because you get to work in a group.  Working in a group is good because you learn to work as a team and to discuss things.  Doing teamwork was good because if we didn't do teamwork, people might get upset and things might have been unfair. Working in groups can help us to learn to share. It wasn't as confusing working out the investigation when we worked as a group. Working in a group was fun as we got to work with other people and compete with them.

When we were doing the rolling of the balls, it felt like we were bowling.  When we did the jumping investigation, it felt a bit like we were jumping over the moon for some people. Doing the investigation were a bit like a competition because everyone tried their hardest.

It was interesting to do the investigations because we learnt how to do our own graphs. This was a fun way to learn new things in Maths.  Some of us really like doing Maths while for others, it might not be our favourite subject, but we still do our best.

Which investigation would you like to do?

How would you feel if you did these investigations?

If you were to do a graph, what would it be about?
