This term we will be learning about the sun, the moon and the earth. Yesterday we made a model showing our understanding of the movements of the sun and the earth.
We found out that the earth takes a day to turn. That the sun is 93 000 000 miles away from the earth. We discovered that the sun is only a middle sized star. The sun turns a little. If the sun was hollow it would fit around 1000 earths inside.
To make our models, we had one big ball and one small ball of foam, a stick and some string. We had to think of ideas of how we were going to show the movements of the earth and the sun. We all came up with different ideas first, before we tried to make our model. Each group then shared their ideas with the class. We all learnt a lot about the sun and the earth from making our models, watching a short video, looking at pictures and sharing ideas.
We did this lesson with our new Student Teacher Miss Gierach. She will be here in our class for another 5 weeks. She is very nice and helpful. We are all looking forward to more of her lessons.
What do you know about the sun and the earth?
Would you like to go up to space to see the sun and the earth?
